Halo Therapy: Benefits of Himalayan Pink Salt for Health, Skin, and Respiratory Wellness
As soon as we think of salt, it immediately comes to our mind – a white powder. It is our daily essential food in our kitchen. The function of salt is not only to give salty taste to food. It also acts as a preservative to save food from spoiling naturally.
Different types of salts are available in the market other than what we use on daily. Traditionally used salts like Dhike salt, Bire salt, Sire salt, Himalayan pink salt are available and are in use. Since sire salt is considered more pure, it is also used in various religious functions.
Himalayan Pink Salt is chemically similar to table salt. It has less sodium content than common salt. Generally, table salt contains around two thousand three hundred sixty (2360) milligrams of sodium per spoon. While one spoon of Himalayan pink salt contains around one thousand six hundred and eighty (1680) milligrams of sodium.
This is about 30 percent less sodium than the salt we use daily. The remaining other elements include trace elements such as potassium, magnesium and calcium. These elements give the salt a light pink color. Due to elements like potassium, magnesium and calcium, the taste of Himalayan pink salt is different from the salt that we use regularly.
This type of salt is mostly used in the same way as regular salt. It is used for purposes like cooking, seasonal food and food preservation. Blocks of pink salt are sometimes used to make dishes, bowls (bowls) for different types of food, chopping boards for cutting, and pans for heating food. Himalayan salt is also used as a sauce for making meat and fish sauce. Some people use Himalayan pink salt instead of bath salt. Lamps and candle holders made of pink salt are also available in the market.
Himalayan pink salt is more natural than ordinary table salt. Table salt is usually refined. Anti-caking agents like sodium aluminosilicate or magnesium carbonate are mixed in it to prevent clumping. However, Himalayan Pink Salt is available unprocessed. Such salt does not contain any additives.

Halo therapy with salt
The therapy using this Himalayan pink salt is called halotherapy. Which in common language is also known as salt therapy/salt medicine. It is also known as speleotherapy. Halo therapy is done in the same way as a spa in the ‘Salt Room’. This therapy provides relief to our body.
Halo therapy helps in solving skin problems. Apart from preventing allergies, this therapy is beneficial even if you have allergies. Also, traditionally, especially in Eastern Europe, it was a practice to visit salt caves for speleotherapy. It was considered medically beneficial.
Studies have found a more modern version of halo therapy while visiting. There is also a case that despite working in the mines all day long, no respiratory problems were seen in the workers working in the mines. The health condition of the laborers working in the mine was normal, they were healthy. Such people are not likely to catch cold and cough.
According to the study, the salty air for breathing while working in the mines helped to keep their lungs free from infections and allergies. From this incident, the importance of salty place was increased. Over time, Eastern European salt mines and caves became popular tourist attractions. The salt cave became a tourist spot to breathe in the salty air and reduce lung problems.
Salt therapy is usually done in the salt room itself. A halo generator machine is kept in such a room. Salt is placed in it, it is added accordingly. The machine breaks up the salt particles moving around the room. There are two types of salt rooms for therapy, active and passive.
There is no machine to break the salt particles in the passive room. Such a room is filled with different types of salts like Himalayan salt. Due to the controlled temperature and humidity, the salt room prepared for therapy looks like a kind of salt cave. The amount of salt in the passive salt room is less than that in the active salt room. A passive salt room can be used more for relaxation and meditation instead of halo therapy.
Two types of salt therapy
Generally, salt therapy can be divided into two types. One of which is dry salt therapy. This therapy is called halotherapy. Therapy is done in an active salt room with the help of a halogenerator. This allows small, dry salt particles to disperse into the air and penetrate the lungs and skin.
Another is wet salt therapy. In this, salt is used for treating different parts of the body through water. Activities such as bathing in salt water containing minerals, rinsing the mouth with salt water, drinking, and running salt water through the nasal canal are done.

Benefits of Halo therapy
Salt is a natural and safe food ingredient. If used in a balanced way, it does not have any side effects. Salt has mucoactive, antibacterial, immunity enhancing, anti-allergic properties. According to studies, due to these properties, halo therapy can be used as an effective method of treatment. Halo therapy is useful for treating lung related problems like asthma and cold.
Therefore, halo therapy is also considered as an alternative treatment method for lungs. This therapy is beneficial for people with lung infection, throat infection or pharyngitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), breathing problems due to smoking. This therapy is beneficial for solving and preventing problems like respiratory allergies, asthma, bronchitis, colds and coughs, pneumonia, sinusitis, rhinitis, tonsillitis, cystic fibrosis. The tiny salt particles used in halo therapy stimulate skin cells to regenerate.
It also helps to protect the skin from premature aging and infection. Similarly, halotherapy is beneficial in skin problems like skin allergies, scars, pimples and dandruff, psoriasis, dermatitis. It is beneficial to get rid of the problem of fungal infection on the skin. However, if there are various types of chronic diseases, halo therapy should be done only on the recommendation of a physician.
